The Frgmnts Newsletter you are probably used to is on a short pause.
I explained in last week’s issue that I will spend the next few weeks preparing the next round of fragments. In the meantime, I’ll be sharing poems (and fragments) from a few of my favorite poets.
I’m looking forward to the change of pace.
one must believe that private dilemmas are, if deeply examined, universal, and so, if expressed, have a human value beyond the private, and one must also believe in the vehicle for expressing them
— from Journal of a Solitude by May Sarton, 1973
This fragment, if you will, has taught me so much. I return to it over and over again, receiving new insight each time. It encourages me to keep going, writing, and sharing.
It’s almost as if I can feel May Sarton — a queer poet who died of breast cancer in 1995 — mentoring me through these words.
I do believe — first and foremost — that there is immense value in privately processing the things you go through. But I have also learned that a) my experiences are never fully unique and b) deep connection waits just on the other side of sharing my experience with others.
Before I let you go, a quick reflection: What do you have to share? Pause and answer this for yourself. If you feel like sharing you can reply to this email. (I'll give you my answer if you ask!)
Thank you for joining me.
See you next Tuesday,
Benny
